Sunday drive - southern style

So, what do you do on Sunday? go for a Sunday drive of course.

As we headed to the Land Between the Lakes we decided that we needed to stop to purchase supplies for lunch - there appeared to be no food outlets in The Land Between the Lakes. So, we stopped at Sonic in Benton, Kentucy only to find out it's Drive-in only. Here's Beverley being a car, pulled up at the drive-in and having her order delivered.

Then it was down on to The Homeplace, Tennessee. This model historical village lives in the 1850s, except for the Gift Shop and Restrooms. We had a fabulous time, spending two hours there.

Just as we turned onto the village there was a field of Bison.

Well howdy Miss April.

The 2-pen house = two rooms downstairs house.

The Quilting Bee. We were all invited to add our stitches to the quilts. They are used through out the homestead.

One the other side of the 2-pen was the kitchen. Tea Cakes were fresh out of the oven, just waiting to have a dollop of jam added.

Margaret having a reminder about the pleasures of hand-quilting.

Then we wandered through the other building.

The 1-pen house = just one room downstairs.

This style of lathe dates back many centuries and is still ideal for turning candlesticks and chair legs.

An accidental shot, but I was looking back in time, wasn't I?

Then we headed back up through the centre of the lakes to Golden Pond (no, not that one)

We took a visit to the prairie to see if the Elk & Bison where about. They were.
Elk = wapiti

More Elk

Back up at the top we dined at Miss Scarlett's. Boy did those two gals ever work to make our dinner.

Phew, after that it was back to the hotel to repackage our bags ready to move on to Nashville the next day.
