Hannibal appears to be the size of Tirau, but is kind of spread out. The downtown area is very quaint, containing more antique shops that we needed, but still managed to go into - and purchase from.
I have been reading out A Dog's Tale as we drove into town - hope the travellers have enjoyed it. It starts, " my father was a St Bernard, my mother a collie, but I'm a Presbyterian". What a wonderful turn of phrase that man had. Sam even visited New Zealand and Australia and included us in Traveling the Equator.
The entire town is sprinkled with his sayings and bylines.
Me too, I'm a postponed baby. Thank goodness I wasn't cancelled!
This was Sam writing about his mother.
His sisters bedroom has a lovely fine Log Cabin quilt. Her skirt hoops look very cumbersome.
Across the street from his childhood home was ........? You guessed it, the quilt store!
This 'bigger than it looks' quilt store has a very interesting bathroom. This is the door pull.
The local museum rounds off the whole Mark Twain experience and houses several Norman Rockwell paintings. He also illustrated books, including Tom Sawyer. The first photo is the pencil sketch, then the watercolour and finally a reproduction of the stamp.
Part of the experience was hooting the riverboat horn and turning the wheel.
I mentioned the antique and collectables stores, well my favourite was Lydia's Curios and Collectables.
Main Street, Hannibal, Missouri.
A lovely morning, now it's on to ........... Can't tell you coz some of the traveler are online down the back of the coach and where we're headed is a surprise.
Looks like a lovely day! Love seeing you at the helm of the riverboat!
