An afternoon in St Louis

So, later that same day we drove through some of the older suburbs, where the homes that were valued at $1,000 in the 1960s are now worth $1.5m.

Lots of lovely embellishment on the commercial buildings too.

The Basillica. Mass had started so we didn't venture inside, but this is the foyer and a couple of stolen glimpses through the window. A very magnificent building.

The statue truely sang for us today - it was very windy and the 'feathers' on the angel are chimes. Very, very nice. Only wish you could hear it.

No trip to St Louis would be complete without a riverboat tour. This wide and muddy river flows at quite a pace too.

Yes, there are quite a few photos of bridges, but we went under four of them. My friend Mr Boyt might be interested in these (and his wife might not have taken enough of her own shots)

This old power station if waiting to be demolished, but is still very cool to look at.

The barges on the river are carrying grain.

The Gateway Arch area is under redesign, but still a magnificent structure.

Another bridge for Mr Boyt.

Bit of detritus in the river. Looked interesting though.

We headed back to Forest Park for an hour. I think we all took advantage of the free entry into the zoo. Several of us rode the little train.

My friend Mr Boyt spent many years and lots of money to achieve his engineering degree, he could have come to the St Louis Zoo and just paid $135!

The zoo is very cleverly laid out and feels very park like.

The gorillas were quite large and two of them were playing chase-y.

Can you make out baby orangutan?

Just four months old, the Mother has only just bought her out for the public to see. Mum must have thought baby had had enough excitement for one day and took the little one into an alcove, put it to her breast, then pulled a sheet up over the two of them. Mothers!

One of the neighbours.

Flamingoes were orange rather than pink.

Guess what this is?

Guess what this is? Yep, another one, this one bigger than the other ones. Jackman's Fabrics.

Enough, dinner and bed!!!
